Emotional abuse happening behind the closed door of the private music studio is all too common, and it is NOT OK.
It may seem obvious, but it needs to be said! < Watch the video below >
The sexual abuse cases are the ones that reach the media, but there is emotional abuse going on in music lessons far more than we will ever know.
Some people even wonder if it's normal, and I'm here to say with ferocity that it is NEVER ok!!
A teacher's role is to help a student learn, which includes providing a safe environment that is optimal for learning.
The student who doesn't feel safe will not learn as well, and the student who experiences abuse in a lesson will associate fear with music.
This video is for anyone who has ever wondered if it's normal for a teacher to yell and get angry in a lesson, or otherwise berate, belittle, or abuse a student (emotionally, physically, or sexually).
Sadly, this kind of teaching has been accepted by societies for far too long. It is fear-based teaching instead of love-based teaching.
If you are a musician who has a hard time feeling good about yourself and your music and you also had an abusive teacher, I would love to help you with this. I've helped many students let go of the fear of making music by healing themselves and freeing themselves to love and find joy in life and music again.
You CAN rise above your past and enjoy yourself NOW – whether that's when you're alone or performing in front of 1000's of people. Anything is possible!! 🙂
