Enjoy a healthy, balanced life and abundant musical success.

Become the powerful artist you are meant to be!

January 6, 2022

You know what it’s like…

You wake up on the morning of an important performance and your heart flutters.

🏃Your mind starts racing along with your body, and before you know it, you’ve thought of multiple things that could go wrong, and part of you wishes you could just run off to Antarctica and never see another audience again!

So what do you do?

You remember: “No good! Gotta RELAX!!! Relax, relax… GO DO SOMETHING and get your mind OFF of this… gotta THINK POSITIVE!!! RELAX!!!”

So you get up, have breakfast, shower… You get distracted by phone calls, pay a bill, your kids need your help… and suddenly you remember again…

“OMG!!! I’m not ready!!! WHY did I ever say yes to this gig?!? I’m not prepared, it’s going to sound horrible – OH those double-stops… Who’s going to be there? Oh, right – YOU-KNOW-WHO… Yikes!!!!”

Your body starts shaking and you get a little adrenaline rush… 😱

The whole day continues like this, and then you’re STUCK IN TRAFFIC!!! “OMG – I”M GOING TO BE LATE!!!!!” Body-terror, mind-craziness…

Rushing into the concert hall like a rabbit dashing around for cover, you REALLY don’t want to be there… 🐰

“But I love music!! I want to be here!! But this feels awful!! Better meditate! Calm down! RELAX!!! BREATHE!!!! Why can’t my shaking body just COOPERATE for once?!?!!!? Why is my instrument so out of tune? Where’s my MUSIC?!!!??? B-R-E-A-T-H-E….”

If you can relate to this scenario, you are not alone! Most musicians experience some degree of stage fright, especially under challenging or unexpected circumstances.

Most musicians also believe they should be able to calm themselves down when they’re stressed. But since nothing really works, they figure there must be something wrong with them, and they become a perpetual victim of their nerves.

How many tips and tricks have YOU tried that only partially work, some of the time? 🙄

The problem is, most musicians don’t systematically prepare the WHOLE mind-body-self in advance, and they don’t really know how to do that effectively, even if they want to.

You might think that deep breathing, meditating, distracting yourself or going for a walk will help (and those are usually better than nothing), but if you wait until the day of your event to take care of your state of being, it’s TOO LATE and your performance will be compromised, even if you manage to calm your system down a bit.

Not only that, but techniques that tend to separate your mind from your body and from the specifics of how you actually play your instrument are really NOT preparing you adequately for the reality of expressing yourself in front of other people.

💥 Meditating, deep breathing, or distracting yourself with activities and unrelated thoughts can actually subtly take you AWAY from your music, even if they’re temporarily calming you down when you’re not playing.

💥 What you need is something that INTEGRATES your thoughts, your body, your movements, your energy, your desire, your passion… with how you make music with your instrument and communicate.

💥 Plus, you need to learn a different way of relating to your audience if, deep down, you’re actually afraid of them. (If you’re a “people-pleaser”, I hope you’ll take this to heart.) 🧑🏿‍🤝‍🧑🏿

Managing and overcoming performance anxiety is absolutely possible.

But to really get to the root of things, you need a system that will help you nip your habitual startle reactions in the bud – way back when they first arise, which can be weeks or even months before a performance. And you need to practice doing this regularly, with full awareness.

So when the time comes, you’re so skilled at thinking in a way that eases your body and calms your mind that your stress hormones don’t stand a chance. You’ll simply be in joyful anticipation of sharing great music with a beautiful audience. 😁

With these skills in place, you’ll develop more and more consistent, conscious control over your SELF, and you can expect your performance to be smooth sailing, with undisturbed enjoyment of your music.

Sound good? 🌈☀😊

This way of being in charge of your mind-body-self and your reactions is truly NOT hard to learn. In fact, it’s extremely simple. It just requires a few things:

✅ A willingness to take responsibility for your performance nerves

✅ A firm decision to try a new, different approach in order to get different results

✅ A willingness to devote just a few minutes daily to improving your mind-body awareness in a way that is simple, clear, and well-directed towards your goal

I teach all of these things (and more!) in The Musician’s Mind-Body Breakthrough.

In the MMBB program, you’ll learn how to relax your mind and calm your body for overcoming all kinds of issues, from performance anxiety and physical tension to healing from injury and improving your technique.

What my students say…

“I LOVED this program! With Jennifer’s gifted and generous guidance, this program has led me to a big change in my attitude towards the way I play my flute. That change has been noticeable to others. I am increasingly able to play with more ease and positivity and success towards my goals. The techniques I have been introduced to and have been practicing have also impacted other parts of my physical, emotional and spiritual life in uplifting ways. I only wish I had started this technique sooner! Jennifer is an amazing teacher and I have received priceless instruction and support. I am thrilled to have had Jennifer’s help. What she has to offer is invaluable!”
