This may be my shortest blogpost ever. I don’t really have time to write a post today, but I just couldn’t resist!
Need a new way to warm up before you practice?
Try dancing to AFRICAN MUSIC! Yeah, I don’t know how, either. But, who really cares? It’s just you, your violin (or cello or bassoon or voice, etc.), your practice space, and Pandora (or Spotify or YouTube, or wherever you like to get your free music)!
Nobody will see you. But YOU will, if you look from the inside out, and that’s what matters!
How? Feel the music move you. If it’s not working, just listen and wait until it does. Open up to the possibility that it might move you in really WEIRD and UNUSUAL ways!! DARE TO MOVE!! 🙂
Laugh at yourself, laugh at the world, laugh at classical music, laugh at the space around you….
…and DANCE! Be wild, be free, be yourself, for yourself. Have fun, and enjoy every inch of YOURSELF!
When you’ve had your fill, go share all of that lively, loving energy with your instrument, and see what happens!
I just did this for myself this morning. Who would have thought that dancing to African music is a great way for me to warm up before practicing Vivaldi’s Summer?! 🙂
Try it out for yourself and let us know what happens below!

Jennifer, this post made me laugh out loud (as many things do). These days I like to warm-up in Grinberg style…moving anything and everything to whatever music comes up on my playlist. It’s very similar to dancing to African music 🙂 Enjoy!
