To create authentically, we have to be willing to let go of what we think we know ✨ both the stories our ego tells us and the rules we have absorbed from the outside world. Only then can we open ourselves to Inspiration, which rarely follows established formulas More often, it rises beyond them.

When that inner fire is allowed to move freely, something genuinely alive can emerge 🔥 fresh, honest, and unmistakably its own. Like a leaf growing on a tree, it belongs to the whole while remaining utterly unique An inspired musical note is the same way. Even when it is slightly off or imperfectly shaped, it carries a truth that can be felt. Its beauty comes from its sincerity, just as ours does.

Of course, guidance matters. Learning from wise teachers, accepting helpful feedback, and understanding foundational principles are essential. We need to know how to hold our instrument, how sound is produced, and how rhythm and intonation function. Approaching those who know more than we do with humility and openness is valuable at every stage of growth.

But even the best guidance can become limiting when it is followed with rigidity or moral judgment. When rules are treated as absolute truths rather than flexible tools, it becomes difficult to sense whether they truly serve us or whether they are appropriate in every situation.

Trouble arises when obedience becomes a measure of goodness. Following rules equals being “good,” while questioning them equals being “bad.” In this mindset, we slowly give away our autonomy. Independent thinking fades, and we lose the ability to perceive nuance or make choices guided by deeper awareness 🌱

I once held tightly to a worldview that split everything into right versus wrong. For a long time, I never questioned it. As I grew older, even asking curious or unconventional questions felt forbidden. The urge to experiment, innovate, or explore beyond accepted norms seemed selfish and ego driven, and therefore wrong.

Because I wanted so deeply to be a “good” person, I chose conformity over curiosity. I suppressed my passions and committed myself to doing everything correctly, trusting authority without question. In hindsight, this was blind perfectionism, a temporary surrender to rigidity. And perfectionism, more than almost anything else, feeds self doubt and suffocates creativity.

This kind of conditioning is not unusual. Most of us are taught to accept the world as it is handed to us, to internalize inherited values, and to strive unquestioningly toward what we are told is right. Reclaiming creative freedom begins when we dare to look beyond that conditioning and listen inward 🕊️

Jennifer ❤
