I finally have a bit of time to write a personal note, sharing a bit about my current experiences here at an ashram in Kerala, India!
I was supposed to leave Cincinnati on January 6th, but was miraculously able to change my ticket to two days earlier to avoid the big midwestern storm that kept many people stranded (including Mio, who finally decided to stay at my house in Cincinnati while I'm gone instead of going back to Oregon).
Thanks to the change in ticket, I was able to attend a 5-day Silent Retreat focusing on healthy living with ayurveda and yoga as soon as I arrived.
This was a truly wonderful experience, punctuated by group meditation sessions, excellent yoga classes, lectures from world class experts in ayurveda (a holistic system for healthy living), ayurvedic cooking classes, and absolutely divine Indian food for every meal, cooked by a woman who grew up here and her crew!
I've been here for three of the eight weeks I've planned, and it's being a very positive adventure and learning experience.
One of the main lessons is patience!
âś… How to wait happily, sometimes for hours or days or weeks.
âś… How to wait and then be turned away – told to go to a different line, or to return another day (AGAIN).
âś… How to let go when things don't immediately work the way I'd like, or at all.
âś… How to go up and down five flights of stairs in the heat – multiple times per day.
âś… How to trust that everything will work out, eventually!
I get plenty of opportunities to practice these lessons on a daily basis, whether it's waiting in a line for a doctor, food, an internet router, a store opening, or the start to an evening program that could begin anytime within the next two hours.
These are important lessons for anyone to learn, and I feel so grateful to be here.
I met with my online Art of Freedom® class yesterday to test out the internet, and was very relieved that – after three weeks of trying out different ways to connect – the speed is now sufficient for me to get back to teaching in February, as planned.
If you've been curious about working with me, I'm now accepting new applications for students who would like to begin working with me in February, or who would like to reserve a spot in my coaching studio now for later this spring or summer.
Just reply to this message and let me know what issues you'd like to work on (for example: pain, tension, performance anxiety, practice skills, and/or specific skills improvement), or use this quick form to inquire and apply: LINK
I look forward to sharing more with you about my Indian adventures in the coming weeks, and especially sharing the best fruits of my lessons learned with you – and how to apply them to your life & music if you're my student!
Be well, be patient, be kind. The world needs more of this from each one of us, so let's do the best we can!
Much Love,
Jennifer 🙂
