Today, we're celebrating Jenny Quick, Piano & Cello! 🎉
Here’s Jenny’s experience (see her picture below):
“My first conversation online with Jennifer was during a cliff top walk while we talked about love being at the deep heart of music making.
Then, 18 months or so later, things changed, calling into question everything I ever thought about being a pianist. The growing pain in my thumb joints called a halt to my playing, although was able to start again with a long neglected cello.
Jennifer's unique videos sharing her own practice became my inspirational “daily bread” …an exemplary, moment to moment description of her own practice, interwoven with Alexander's principles, applied wisdom and unwavering honesty.
Her holistic approach has enabled fascination and positivity rather than defeat. It has meant being open to the possibility of making a huge transition from a kind of self sabotaging dependence (the fierce, get a grip attitude) on what I had always believed was my musical voice (a life long love affair with the piano) to becoming more aware of and confident in myself as the primary instrument… As the reliable constant from which my love of music can freely flow.
I would have choked with frustration if I had continued with the same old ways of bringing tension and need to my practice. Being a beginner is so contrary to my ego-desire to excel! But I'll be honest, it really is challenging and confronting.
However, each little step is enough, I am making more progress than I would have thought possible and my cello teacher is astonished at how readily I can drop something unhelpful and pick up something new.
Something that could have been so demoralizing is being transformed into a gift. Just yesterday I started to play my piano quietly and very slowly without hurting myself. It may well not quite be the same as before and I'm glad.”
